UConn LSAMP students install solar heating panels in Peru community

LSAMP, the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation chapter at UConn, supports students majoring in STEM: science, technology, engineering and math. LSAMP Scholars are offered benefits throughout their education, including the opportunitiy to travel abroad. In May, LSAMP students traveled with EF Study Abroad to Peru with the service goal of building ten functioning solar heating panels for showers in a Luquina, a small village on the shores of Lake Titicaca.

“Peru was an unforgettable, life changing event,” says Paulina Henao ’17. “Making a difference in people’s lives was not only self fulfilling but also an incredible experience. I can definitely say that my experience in Peru opened my eyes to spectacular sights and a bigger heart. ”
