How to Engage with Veterans in your Area

When Rishi Sharma was just a teenager, he began riding his bike to local retirement homes to interview World War II veterans. Not only was he interested in their stories, but he wanted a way to preserve their legacies. This is what led him to found Heroes of the Second World War, a nonprofit whose mission is to film as many interviews with World War II veterans as possible. To date, Heroes of the Second World War has interviewed over 800 veterans from all over the country.

Although Rishi himself tries to interview at least one veteran every day, he depends on the support of others to continue these important conversations. You can personally get involved by recommending a veteran to be interviewed or conducting the interview yourself.

Rishi is an example of age being just a number. With the 75th anniversary of D-Day approaching, it’s important to commemorate the legacy of veterans like Rishi has. Find out how you can get involved with other organizations that support veterans and their families.
